I've found a couple mechanically inclined friends(one of which daily drives a fox body) that are happy to help me on my future project and We're looking for suitable 302 blocks for me to go out and buy! :)

I really like the early fox mustang front ends as well as the Capri front end.

It wasn't until I saw a capri that I realized what had always bugged me about the mustangs. The grill on the Capri is so much better

Look for POS fords from 1960-1980. The 70's 302 is what you want also if it is a 2 barrel model it is a little better IMO.

Get ready for a knowledge dump.
Find a 70's 302 with the 2 barrel carb why 2 barrel wasn't beat on as much and the 70's version was used a ton so a surplus of parts is out there.
Upgrade it to a HOLLEY 4 barrel carb.
Another reason why the 70's version is good is because it was the version before emissions which means more power but yet it was developed enough to be semi-reliable.
Find a POS Ford with this motor buy it for cheap take motor and sell it as a roller.
I always planned to one day build a 302 if you want more of my input I would be happies to help.

THERE WE GO! :D
Can I not carb a 90s short block? I assumed the blocks were all the same and could easily be modified for carbs?
I did find this one:

Find a complete engine. If you want power you don't need to start with just a block it would be easier to buy a complete engine replace everything with better parts and sell off the old stuff than start from square one. Also you could carb a 90's block and I know a guy who did and made 600WHP but it is easier to work with an old 302.

Cannot afford complete engine, I'd like to start with a block because I wanna start from the ground up and make it my own from top to ze bottom. That '95 block has me enticed and I may go look at it this week.

Ok but it might be harder to find carb intake manifolds for a later block.
Also if you want a better and less traditional carb setup look at Edelbrocks 6 single barrel car setup other wise go with a Holley.
But idf you want a powerful throttle body EFI go with a Fast 2.0 self tuning system.
If you want the crazy fast HOLY SHIT option get a dual plane intake and run 2 Fast 2.0 EFIs 8 barrels 16 fuel injectors.

Why so? Ima still new to this and open to ideas as the come along.
I'm only looking for minimum 300-350hp. What's the dif between Edelbrocks and Holley?

Because the older the block the more stuff has been made for it.
Edelbrock is better for stuff that isn't a 2 or 4 barrel Holley is the best for 2 or 4 barrel. For TB EFI the fast Easy EFi 2.0 is the best.

Cool! I have an 86 GT, 5.0 myself in medium canyon red. The engine puts out 405 hp at the crankshaft and it's a blast to drive. If you are interested I can share my engine build parts with you to help get you at or close to that level of power?

Sure!! Any help I can get is better than me doing this alone. :)
The only issue is how far I can go with a motor/block I haven't given myself a budget on the motor, but I'd like to spend enough to the point where I have at least 300-350hp minimum.

My short block with forged JE 9.5:1 pistons, Eagle H-beam forged rods and a cast steel crankshaft came from Keith Craft Racing Engines. All new, it cost right at $2,500 several years ago, but I'm sure you could piece together your own parts for a good bit less money if you are so inclined. I went with the forged parts because I am supercharging the engine. Note: Use a Mellings or other good name brand stock oil pump, you don't need a "High Volume" pump which is likely to cost you horsepower, break your distributor driveshaft ( I'd recommend a HD distributor driveshaft in any case ) and put too much oil to the top end of the engine while possibly draining your oil pan. As a general rule of thumb you need approximately 10 psi for every 1000 RPM the engine will see, which a stock pump can easily supply on a street driven engine if the bearings are not worn out and the clearances are not too loose.
I am running the X303 Ford "alphabet" camshaft ( dialed in for the best performance ) and Crane 1.6 adjustable roller rocker arms. The heads are the aluminum Edelbrock Performer RPMs with 2.02 intake and 1.65 exhaust valves. ( make sure the heads/valves will work with the pistons you choose, the pistons may need to be flycut for proper valve clearance ). The intake is a port matched Cobra EFI intake with a 65mm throttle body. It sucks the intake air through a 75mm MAF that is calibrated to the 24lb injectors I use. You want the MAF to be a bit bigger than your throttle body kind of like a funnel feeding into the intake. This helps keep the air flow velocity up and helps reduce any "dead air" scenario in the intake system off idle or part throttle.
That's about all I can remember at the moment, but I'm sure more will come back to me as I think about it. Best of luck to you with your build.

Thanks! If you started with a short block then so will I. I recognize the X303 camshaft from Ford Racing. I want aluminium heads and a Boss 302 intake. And I want all forged parts for best durability. This is an excellent start and $2500 is an excellent budget for me to build this over the next few years. :)

You are welcome and I am happy to help you all I can, just let me know if you need anything else. Email contact is my name as shown here, at outlook dot com if you need it.
There is no "Boss 302" intake for these older 5.0 engines that I am aware of at this time. I would recommend the Edelbrock Performer RPM II EFI intake instead as it will better match the heads and probably offers a performance gain over the Cobra intake. If you don't like or cannot find the Edelbrock heads or for whatever reasons, I would consider the AFR 165 or 185 heads in their place.

So here's what I think I need to make this:
1. Short Block
2. Heads
3. Camshaft
4. Intake
5. Pumps
6. Ignition
7. Injection System
8. Pans
Anything else?

That's pretty much it.
Is your car currently fuel injected and working or did it work before you started?
I.E., does it have a working fuel injection, computer/system like my 86 did?
If so, the only thing I can think of to add is the MAF conversion kit.

Oh. Actually the thing is that I don't have a car..My plan was to find a motor first, build it over the next few years and when the time comes, I'll find a donor car and drop it in with all the other necessary parts. I've got a crew that can help me, we all decided to start with a motor then find a body.

Ok, that will work fine. I'd choose an 89-93 Mustang in the model of your choice to make it all easier to do, but other models/cars can be converted too, it's just considerably more work. If you could find a 89-93 Mustang coupe, then that would be an additional bonus as they are the lightest models.

Will do! I prefer the Four-eyes look of the '79-87 to be honest, but whatever is best for the long term, I'll go with it! :D
